Tolarno Station and its adjoining property Peppora run in excess of 20,000 merino sheep with over 15,000 mated ewes. Traditionally a 23 - 24 micron clip, Tolarno is placing a strong emphasis in reducing the micron to 21 over the next 5 years. We are purchasing rams which offer soft rolling characteristics that the market is now looking at for the future of our industry. Between the group of 3 properties (Tolarno, Peppora and Murrabinna) we aim to produce in excess of 200,000 kg of wool in the year 2000. Shearing takes place in the second week in March on the properties.
With a fair lambing Tolarno and Peppora aims to put in excess of 10,000 to 15,000 merino lambs on the ground. Lambing takes place in June / July with sales aimed in August to December period.
Tolarno / Peppora undertakes a culling process throughout the year. We cull the young ewes at 18 months of age. Based on our large frame size and improved wool quality, Tolarno / Peppora ewes are often in demand to join to British breeds to create a first cross lamb.
This year Tolarno will shear a large number of older ewe stock with sales in excess of 4000 - 5000 ewes expected in September - November 2000. Key Benefits
