Goats were introduced to the region late last century by the Afghans who camel-trained the wool out of the region. In the last 5 years the world demand for goats has increased markedly with the supply of bush goats increasing. Tolarno harvests a large number of goats on a regular basis which are also in demand for their large size and weight. As a general rule, Tolarno / Peppora sells male bucks by the truckload based on an average number of 700 goats per load. The goats are fed and watered until the night before loading to reduce stress and loss of the goats during transit.
Smaller goats which don't meet weight standards are wethered and returned back into the population of nannies. South African boar goats are being introduced into the flock this year to further add weight onto the carcass. Breeding nannies are also available for sale on application.
